Join other interested Johnson Countians in a bicycle commute to downtown KCMO in the morning. This is a great way to gain road confidence while getting to and from work on a bike, as well as learning some of the intricacies of a popular bicycle commute route. This ride is all about sparking interest and empowering more cyclists in JoCo to use their bicycles for transportation in addition to weekly group rides and recreational strolls on the bike path.

I will be riding this route most mornings even through the winter, weather permitting. My goal is to ride past Scooter's at 6:00 or 6:05 AM.

    Things to note

  • The ride only happens if the weather's nice, but e-mail me if you want to join up to make sure I know when/where you'll be. Through the colder months, I won't always announce my plans ahead of time.
  • No one gets left in the dust by me. I can provide minor mechanical assistance or stay with you until you've gotten help if needed.
  • This is a fixed route. Faster riders may ride as fast as they want if they know the route.
  • I recommend taking a bus out of downtown in inclement weather. Contact me if you need advice on using the bus system. Most Johnson County Transit buses can carry at least two bicycles.
  • My usual return trip to Johnson County takes me past Boulevard Brewery at around 3:45-4:00 PM. If you would like to join me for the return trip, let me know.
  • Finally, you're responsible for your own safety. Neither I nor anyone else in the group will be held liable for damage, injury, or any other misfortune. The Litigious States of America forces me to stress this point.

What you'll want to bring with you

  • Plenty of water
  • Flat repair stuff (inner tube and/or patch kit, CO2 inflater or frame pump)
  • I recommend wearing a helmet. A headlight and tail light are not optional. They don't have to be bright, but I don't want to ride with bike ninjas..
  • Work clothes and gear (in a backpack, saddlebags, or bungeed to a cargo rack)
  • Alternatively, you could bring an extra pair of clothes in on Friday before, and leave your work necessities in the office over the weekend.

Fill out the form below to inquire about riding with me some morning.

I recommend leaving a phone number, but you don't have to. I'll only call if you said you'd be somewhere at a certain time and you are not. Please try to be on time or a little early, though.
